Farewell . . .
With Our Deepest Appreciation,
We Send You Our Fond Farewell
Please refrain from sending additional donations.
Dear and treasured Hope of Survivors Community:
Our Loving Lord declares in Ecclesiastes, chapter 3, that “He has made everything beautiful in its time.” Yet also within that Biblical teaching, our Creator gently reminds us that there is a limited time appointed for everything on this physical earth.
In the New Testament, we see that such brevity can sometimes apply to Christian service, such as that of Stephen and John the Baptist, both of whose appointed times for ministry were of short duration.
The takeaway for us is, that as we place our complete and total trust in God and His altogether beneficent desire for our eternal well-being, that we should graciously and gratefully accept His indications of timing.
As we share with you with much natural human sadness and sense of loss, that the appointed time of The Hope of Survivors is now passing, we also want you know that our predominant feeling is that of gratitude to our Lord and Savior for the great honor and privilege which He has bestowed upon us to know you, to admire you, to be inspired by your strength, your courage, your resilience, your generosity, your prayers, and the opportunity to have served you over the course of these many years.
To provide you with a brief overview of our circumstances:
After almost 20 years of devoted service, our founders, Pastor Steve and Samantha Nelson, originally retired from The Hope of Survivors at the end of 2021, primarily due to Samantha’s declining health, which has since continued to worsen. Yet out of love and commitment to the ministry, Pastor Nelson sacrificially agreed to return to the Board in 2024 for one year to support THOS during a very challenging interval, although he graciously remained with us for two years.
However, with President Steve’s February 1 departure from THOS, the Board has prayerfully conducted a thorough analysis of the ongoing viability of the organization. Having done so, we very reluctantly arrived at the collective conclusion that there remains no realistic path forward for The Hope of Survivors ministry at this time.
Thus, this will be our final HopeSpeak Newsletter; we will be shuttering our Website and our Social Media; and the Board will be proceeding with a formal Plan of Dissolution as quickly as possible. Any funds remaining after all ministry obligations have been met will be distributed, as required, to other 501(c)(3) entities determined by our Board of Directors.
Please refrain from sending additional donations.
Time-limited Offer:
Ahead of our formal Dissolution, we would like to extend a limited-time offer to any of you who have already contributed to The Hope of Survivors during this 2026 calendar year, to receive a refund of your 2026 donation(s).
If you wish to have your 2026 donation(s) refunded, you will need to send, on or before the March 15th deadline, an email to our V.P. of Finance and Treasurer, Carlos Rosero at: carlos@thehopeofsurvivors.org. Please designate your email Subject as: Request for 2026 Donation Refund. In your message, you will need to provide the 2026 date(s) and the amounts of any donations for which you are requesting a refund. Thank you!
Alternate resources for you to check out:
At the inception of The Hope of Survivors in 2002, there were very few Clergy Sexual Misconduct resources available. Although THOS has continued to be unique in important ways; thankfully, now there are many more resources available for victims. Here are a few, regarding which we have heard good reports:
- Clergy Sexual Misconduct Information and Resources: https://clergysexualmisconduct.com/
- Restored Voices Collective: https://www.restoredvoicescollective.com/
- Abide Network: https://www.abide.network/
Our thoughts and prayers will be with you and we wish each one of you the very best in your journey going forward.
May we all cling to our Lord and Savior, and trust in Him always.
Your fellow worker,
Alma Regan
Acting President, The Hope of Survivors
